I actually can't write romance, full stop. Mainly because I haven't tried. But I tried in my head, and it just sounded bad.

Yeah, the stuff I wrote sounded bad too. They have to be the most nauseating couple on the planet.

They weren't that bad. But some of best romances I've read are understated.
"I think I love you. Just so you know."
"Oh. OK. I think I love you too. But this is a bit of bad time, isn't it?"
And in Narnia, in the epilogue, when it says that Shasta and Aravis spent most of their time arguing and when they grew up they got married so that they could argue more conveniently. That made warm fuzzies.
I hope I find someone to argue with...

The thing about writing good romance is you need to be suitably prepared.
So, notebook and pen under the duvet with a box of chocolates and something along the lines of Notting Hill on the TV.

I tried to write romance once. It was disgusting. Mrs Burrill called it "sentimental". She was being very kind.

Mine sometimes comes out all right, but usually it takes a lot of rewrites

Having never read it, I can't really judge on that.

You read mine... it sucked. Though I have now made it a little less nauseating.

Oh. Oh my. I'm actually in tears. Tears of laughter, that is... I found it. I used the word "wackiness" and it appears I went overboard on the Microsoft Word Thesaurus. Heh, I wrote this when I was in my Shane West phase, so the guy's name was Shane... Ew. I'm sickening myself.
HAHAHA - HAM SANDWICHES!!!! Ahem. Oh dear. I just read the most emo line. I'm actually making myself retch with this.
Eurgh. The horror. This is beyond bad. All it needs are some book/film characters, and it's the slushy parts of a Mary-Sue! Ugh, never again...
