This is a story that I was working on and then lost my drive for... I found it today and thought I'd give it a test-run on here... maybe get some feedback/ideas for it. Let me know what you think of the prologue:
In a world parallel to ours in a time before the great pantheon of the ancient Greeks in our world, there was only the Mother, who had stepped out of the Void and created the two worlds. In one, She created our world as we know it and left us to make of it what we would. In the other, She created a race of immortals that were like unto the gods of later civilizations in our Earth and she called them the Ithratet, the Eldest. The Mother so loved her Eldest Children that she created for them a place above the world where they could watch over her later creations. She called this place Cathamiel, the High Place of Light.
After creating the worlds and the Ithratet, the Mother went to the Other Earth and rested for a while in a great field of flowers. As she rested, another being came out of the Void and lay with the Mother. His name was Dathir-ar-Canto, Shadow and Chaos, and after his coming Night came to the Earth and everywhere he walked became dry desert lands.
The Mother birthed a son, named Mikien, known simply by humans in both worlds as Death. He could travel from one world to the other collecting the souls of the dead, for after his birth into the world all living things began to die. The mother created for her Children of the Other Earth a paradise for them after they died called Heaven or Tarthamiel, the Golden Light and Cathamiel forever after by Humans was called Above-Heaven.
The Ithratet, the Eldest of the Mother’s Children, were elite, powerful beings that were both benign and malevolent in their dealings with Humans. Eight of them there were, who resided in Above-Heaven. There was Garthus the Brave, the leader of the Ithratet; Sertus, his twin brother, who was Wisest of all; Mearia, the Loving who was said to have birthed the Four Elders: Centaurs, Dwarves, Elves, and Giants; Canthia, who with her tears created the salt seas and ruled over the creatures inhabiting them; Faria, the Hunter, who created the forests of the world with her gentle mahogany hands; Dagrathus, the Cunning, who instilled Darkness into the hearts of Humans; and, Fairest of the Ithratet, Garthus’s wife, Lylia, the Singer, who resides over the dominion of the Sky and gives voice to the winds; and the most dangerous of all: Zarynia, the Fire-Maker, the destroyer of all things. Also there was Brontus, the Accuser, who was cast out of Cathamiel after challenging Garthus and losing the battle.
A delicate balance was required over the power of the Ithratet. A thin line, there was, between Good and Evil, but it was there nonetheless. On the side of Good: Garthus, Lylia, Mearia, and Faria. On the side of Evil: Zarynia, Brontus, and Dagrathus. In the middle, neither good nor evil, resided Sertus, for he would take no side. A great war had been raging for a millennium, neither side gaining any ground against the other. But the winds were changing. Neither side had brought into the equation the Race of Men, nor their role in the Mother’s plans. For, as fate would now have it, the very continuation of life in Both Earths rested in the hands of a young woman and her ability to harness the powers of the elements, her faithful companion, and a girl from a world that neither knew existed. For in our Earth, time moved more rapidly than in Other Earth and the year was 2005 and a girl named Hannah was about to get the shock of her life.
So begins our tale…
