You've driven a poor salesperson to tears by insisting on paying for the last copy of the Lord of the Rings novel with every bit of change you have: pound coins, 50p, 20p, 10p, 5p, and 1p are all used in this endeavour.

* You underline absolutely EVERYTHING possible, just so that you can look at the LOTR characters on your ruler.
* You figured out when it was 1000 days since you first saw LOTR.
* And celebrated it.
* You go into a shop selling LOTR silver figurines. You can only afford one. There's absolutely no way you can choose between the characters, so, amidst much mourning, you don't buy one.
(and here's the scary one)
* You stand there for fifteen minutes talking to them anyway.

When you discovered your local garden centre sold LotR ornaments, you squealed and ran halfway across the shop to find your friend/sister, who looked at you in a very concerned manner.

You find yourself as a mentor to the Legolas-lovin' fangirls in your school, because they're tired of being sneered at by the book fans and want your vast knowledge on Elves and Tolkienology in general. This you happily supply them with.

you scare people who are not obsessed with LotR to the depths of their very souls. Congratulations, people!

You know you are obsessed when anything or everything you or anyone else says can somehow be traced back to LOTR...
Example: Finding Nemo~ During the part where Nigel is informing Nemo about his father being is Australia, he says "and Diver Dan over there." Diver Dan is a character from an Aussie show called SeaChange, and Diver Dan was played by David Wenham, who played Faramir...
And of course when you bring this to one's attention, you say it all in one breath...quickly...

You have LOTR radar. This means you can actually detect ANYTHING to do with LOTR in a room.
For example, you come home, and immediately spot a small bag half-covered by shoes because you can *just* see the LOTR logo through the plastic. And immediately ask "OOHWHAT'STHATWHAT'STHAT???"
Another example of visual radar is when you're walking down the street, and suddenly stop and say "Wait... I saw something to do with LOTR..." and don't keep walking until you've spotted what you saw out of the corner of your eye. And if there's nothing there, you can still recognize what made you think of it.
Sound radar is recognizable by whether you can detect people talking about LOTR from a distance. For example, my computer is in the dining room. My mother and sister are in the living room. I wasn't listening to what they were saying, but heard, "...Galadriel..." I immediately stopped what I was doing and ran in saying "What? LOTR? Galadriel? What?"
Also, once in a busy art room where everyone was talking, I heard very faintly "Precioussss..." on the radio, and immediately ran over to hear what they were saying.
My radar is really quite strong.

Wow.....I have a LOTR radar too. I was once at school and a couple of guys know my obsession with it. They said that they were playing the LOTR computer game and were looking over at me to see if I sensed it.
The funny thing is, about the time that they looked, I was mentioning something to my friend about LOTR and got the suspicious feeling that something LOTR was going on.

Hahah, that sounds about right...
* When you hear that another LOTR marathon is taking place, the fact that your mother has her foot in a cast and your father being off skiing won't stop you going. Even though you went before. Four months ago.

In regard to said LOTR marathon, you plan on dragging your sister there, kicking and screaming if need be, and despite the fact she still gets frightened at the sight of Shelob.

* When trying to persuade your mum to let you go to the I-MAX, and she says "What's the point? You've already seen them!" you are so shocked you can't even answer.

You know you're obsessed when you're so obsessed that your friends actually worry about you. Seriously.

You know you're obsessed when you laugh at EVERYTHING someone else says because you think it resembles something from LOTR, even if it really doesn't.
Oh, I have another one. Whenever someone states the obvious, you say, "Did you figure that out on your own, Legolas?"

Okay...I have another....yet again...
You know you're obsessed when you assume the name of a character from LOTR and refuse to answer to anything but that name...
i.e....I am Meriadoc Brandybuck in disguise.

* A shadow and a threat is growing in your friends' minds...
* When people say you're crazy, you're actually proud, because everyone thought Bilbo was crazy.
* You still dive behind bushes screaming "CREBAIN FROM DUNLAND!" when you see crows circling, even though it's such an obsessed-fan-cliche now...
