I've been racking my brains for a fortnight (or thereabouts) for a decent debate to put up, and I think I've finally found one. It was originally going to be
'Why is it that when a girl has to choose between a mysterious, sexy stranger, who is potentially evil and generally has an unhealthy obbession with black (depending on the storyline), and who probably (see above) loffs her to the point of obbession, and a wholesome, sweet, but boring boy, they go for the BORING ONE!!?!?!??!? *insert outraged squeals and thrashing*'
Sadly, I realised that this would highlight several things; a) I hadn't thought it through properly, because there are examples of girls going for the mysterious stanger, or the equivalent (Grease.....uh......I'm sure I thought of more last night...Ah! Buffy. There ARE more, I just can't think of them now) and, b)I am dwelling on Julian and Jenny too much, to the point of creating an entire debate to whine about it.
SO, (and I promise this LOOOOONNNNGGGGGGGGG prose will END soon) which is better;
Mysterious stranger, possibly magical, potentially evil, and v. sexy
OR
Wholesome, sweet, BORING boy. Probably good looking.
Which would YOU choose? (You can guess my choice)

Jenny is a complete and utter idiot. Though, in all fairness, we never see much of her relationship with Tom.

Gwen is in my head, begging for a chance to bring Julian back. Not for romantic purposes, but 'cause he would be a helpful characterisation tool if I wrote a TFG fanfic. Not that I'm going to.
It's very scary, having people in your head.

How do you think I feel? I drew a family tree of all my characters while on holiday, and now ALL of them are in my head, demanding backstory.
And I've found an example where I would go for the safe rather than mysterious guy - Xander. I would so choose Xander above Angel.

*sigh* See, I've a soft spot for the Irish.....even fake Irishmen, who are actually American.
BTW, I am now trying to write 4 pieces of my story, each from a totally different generation.
And sadly, I gave into Gwen. I now know she goes through some trance, probably drug-induced, that helps he get rid of her fear of death/the unknown. And that she has a guide.

Why are you defensive about that? Do you think I'm a plot stealer or something?

No, I just get defensive when people raise their eyebrows in disbelief at my plots. I always describe them wrongly.

Thanks. Sadly, I have a case of writers block so bad (brought on by my current apathy for everything) I can't write anything.
Dammit.

Oh, now I've started writing a bit of young Gwen, when she was in loff with Raven. It's part of my plan to exorcise every last bit of Sueness out of Gwen, and make her more human.
It's not working. She's gonna have to remain a possesive, spoilt princess who can't make up her mind 'bout anything. Until Archos comes along and, in an ironic twist of fate, plays the surrogate father to her, and then she grows up. Oh, and then takes away her second greatest wish (her greatest being never having to die) -to have children

Dearie me.
One of my characters has Sue-like tendencies, but I managed to get rid of them just by making her, at an incredibly important moment in the story, SCREW UP.

OMG OMG OMG!!! Revalations!! People who shouldn't die dying!! AARGGG!!!

Seriously, I've had a MAJOR revaltion about someone dying....but they shouldn't...so I'll have to spend several days making it work..
