So David...what's your favourite colour?

David: Er, I don't know. They're all nice.

Right. Tell me about your village before you left it. Was it nice there?

Yeah, it was. My dad was sort of the unofficial leader of it, and he and my mum - and me, when I got old enough - went round sorting out people's problems, so we got to know everyone. Everyone was really nice. Well, to us, anyway.

So do you think they were only nice because your family were the 'head family'? Or at least some of them?

I think the whole village had a community vibe. They had their squabbles of course, over goats and stuff like that, but it was mainly trivial.

So, um, what do you think of you're brother?
(sorry Katie, but I can't think of any other questions. And I'm curious)

(Fair enough. It is the pressing question. And I have an answer ready!)
I worry about him. I always have! I mean, I was all involved in helping mum and dad, but he hardly ever did. They tried to make him at first, but then gave up. He was always quiet. You could never tell what he was going to do next. I think he unnerved the other people in the village slightly – he was nice enough, they didn’t dislike him, but they were never quite at ease with him. And the others were friendly enough with him, but I think he was ever their friend. I don't think he wanted to be.

And how did you feel about that?

Well, as I said, I worried about him. But after we had to leave, I kind of had others to worry about, so I just left him alone.

Do you regret that?

I do now, of course. But it's a bit late.

What do you mean, too late?
